A rider on the PBR circuit works towards that elusive eight-second

ride. Thanks for looking and for comments.

Matt - I saw your comment regarding the 70-200VR in the Nikon forum. If this is an example of the potential of that lens, I have to have one. This a beautiful shot! - Pat

Pat: Yup, the 70-200VR is a piece of freakin' magic, I must say. It has completely changed my notion of how a lens should behave, and what the image can look like. I had the setting sun coming right over my left shoulder, and was shooting at ISO 800, shutter priority, set to 1/800. With the light the way it was, the lens and camera decided that f8 or so was suitable for the conditions. I was shooting in AF-C (continuos focusing mode), and the D200 was able, with the 70-200's super fast AF-S design, to really keep up with these guys bouncing around on cranky bulls. Every time I get that lens out, I feel better and better about what it cost. Thanks for the comment, and I know I don't need to encourage you to try that lens - you'll love it.

Tom: Thanks! Since I'm not exactly hiking with this rig, I like the mass (and height - I'm over 6') of the Manfrotto 682B. It has a lower assembly that can sprout legs, too - which doesn't serve as a tripod, but I've even used it to mount an SB800 strobe for remote use. To add to the mass and stability, I sometimes use a Manfrotto 3265 pistol grip ball head. That gives me a pretty tank-like assembly with a quick disconnect so I can swap lens/body configurations. And, I think I could use it to win a bar fight, if necessary.

Harder than it looks! Getting bucked off is easy - it's the landing that kinda smarts. Great shot. The 70-200 is a great rodeo lens.
