Beautiful work, how do you guys manage to get so close to these birds?

 

I have a 70-200mm lense with an extender 1.4 on a crop camera that gives me 448mm focal lenght and yet I am NOT able to get so colse to these birds.

 

Do you guys set up something hidden and then hide and wait close to their nest or something?

This is an absolutely stunning photo - amazing sharpness and isolation, colour balance is hard to believe - fantastic light on the face - one of the best bird photos I have ever seen anywhere. (I see some 6 ratings - wonder what their 7 is?) A masterpiece.
