Very sharp focusing.Frozen and in motion simultaneously.I know these birds, extremely fast wings movement, while they stay still.Amazing.It would be an interesting effect if you try(anytime you have the chance) a slower speed and a single flashgun with rear sync.Best regards

Walter, Technically excellent, though a bit clinical. A fine result for publication in a scientific or similar journal. For me to purchase a shot for display in my home though I think I'd like a version with a natural environmental surround. What you have here is a portrait of a bird pasted on a black background. Very dramatic but it doesn't tell the whole story. As an experiment in action stopping lighting I guess I'd have to say it's a success. Best, LM.

Thanks Len for the visit. Yes, I agree with you. This is just an experiment to fine-tune the technique. Frankly, I am not happy with this result, as you say it is a bit too clinical, and I would like better DOF. I am working on a more aesthetically pleasing view with a natural setting. One improvement that I have made is to raise my POV so that the camera is looking down on the subject. This improves the DOF because the wing is then closer to the same plane as the body. Getting the lighting right is not easy.

Hopefully, by the end of the season, I will have something useful to show for my efforts. My goal is to have an image that I can print to about 64x80 inches; sort of a monster size. Regards.
