torfinn 0 Posted July 11, 2007 Wonderful, and dreamy picture, Alpo! Great contrast, composition, and lightning. I meant 3/3 googies for Micki. Best regards, Torfinn. Link to comment
garry_b 0 Posted July 11, 2007 Alpo, I like your vision for this image. Black and white was definitely the way to go. It is interesting to me how many people nowadays shoot digital and convert to black and white. As a die hard darkroom geek, I am used to approaching my subjects having already decided whether a want to render the image in color or black and white. But, what can I say... this is a brand new age and we are all just trying to catch up with technology. The most annoying thing about digital capture (IMO) is the issue of dynamic range, particularly with regard to highlights. With a black and white negative, a really dense highlight can ussually (not always) be rescued. In a digital file, however, when it's pure white, it's pure white and there is nothing you can do about it. In this image, the bright, blown-out highlight to the right of the flower is really bothersome. It distracts my attention from the subject and even makes me squint a little. As a general rule, our eyes tend to go to the brightest area of an image first. If this image was shot in RAW, maybe there is some detail you can pull out of this bright area. Otherwise, this image has a beautiful tonal range. I just wish that the lightest part was the flower. Next time, try to pay attention to the tonality in the background. Perhaps you could have framed it a little bit differently to keep the background elements darker and exclude any distracting highlights. Great work! Best Regards, Garry Link to comment
