davidclapp 0 Posted July 7, 2007 Taken at 11.30pm last weekend, an experiment with long exposures and monnlight at the coast. I could have stayed here all night... Link to comment

blake middleton 0 Posted July 7, 2007 The highlights on the rocks and mist give this a great feel. Link to comment
davidclapp 0 Posted July 7, 2007 The long esposure is helped by using some noise reduction software, but ther main technique with this sort of photography seems to be to get the best exposure you can. I made sure there was was very little clipping in the shadows. Link to comment
gary_mcghee 0 Posted July 8, 2007 lovely tranquil scene. the reflections have added a nice sparkle to the shot. Link to comment
morteza.safataj 0 Posted July 8, 2007 David, This is a wonderful shot.I'm really curious to know how you could control the moon and the reflection on the horizon without overexposing.you've capture foreground as well as possible.Did you use ND G. Why did you use iso400 insted of iso100, was there a personal experience? Link to comment
davidclapp 0 Posted July 9, 2007 It was a straight shot no grads were used. The reason the moonlight is soft is because the high cloud cover has difused the moon. I exposing it for the highlights. The shadows were very slightly clipped, but I have raised the mids on the image to gain better detail from the image. I used ISO 400 as at ISO 100 the image would have been terribly underexposed. After noise reduction there is surprisingly little noise in the inmage. Anyway glad you like it! Link to comment
kurt2006 0 Posted July 9, 2007 David, this is just great. The reflections on the smooth rocks really makes this an excellent image. I'm not sure how you created the layering but there appears some interface issue along the horizon at this scale but the concept is correct. Cheers. Link to comment
davidclapp 0 Posted July 9, 2007 Sorry Kirt can you elaborate about the interface issue? i dont get it... Link to comment
Guest Guest Posted July 12, 2007 David, a lovely image indeed. The light on the foreground is quite exquisite. As Kurt mentioned, there is a rather sharp cutoff between the clouds and the sea. That should be no issue to fix. Very well done. Regards, Christoph Link to comment
davidclapp 0 Posted July 13, 2007 ...yeah I know but that is what it looked like! It is just a straight shot, no exposure blending or composites, the cut off between the land and the sea is entirely natural and has nothing to do with me. The only thing I have done is correctly expose the shot and lift the mids up to expose the rocks better. Link to comment
bigmanjohnson 0 Posted January 24, 2008 the details are just amazing... and i'm a sucker for beach pictures with fog. Link to comment
