Pushing the limits a bit (and very glad for the VR lens, since this

was unplanned and hand-held) on an evening exterior shot. Thanks for

looking and comments.

This must have been an interesting challenge in processing. If it was shot raw/nef, how did you choose white balance and saturation? By judgement as to what you wanted? There doesn't appear to be any identifiable neutral, the light source I guess would be tungsten (tho course they could be flourescents). Thanks for any additional info you care to share.

Wayne: This was indeed shot in RAW. The sun was already set, and it took a third of second (at ISO320) to suck in enough light to capture this (let's hear it for a VR-stabilized lens - no tripod available for this one!). As you can see, the incandescent light fixtures are pretty well blown out, but I was OK with that, since I wanted to be sure to preserve the appearance of the interior of the building, and the flowers outside. Even so, I used Capture NX's "U-Point" widgetry to boost some brightness and contrast where needed. I actually didn't need to monkey with the saturation much at all. Color-balance-wise, that was totally seat of the pants. I picked a spot on the roof gutter, and the manually tweaked the balance. The good news: I sold this image to the proprieters, who are now using it in their promotional material.

Matt, there has been many a night that the contrast between interior "reddish" or at least warm lighting and exterior bluish lighting has made a mark on me, but I have never seen a more dramatic example of this contrast than this one--and hand-held at that!  What really great work!
