South Central Los Angeles -- here South Vermont Street -- is

noteworthy for its great mix of ethnicity, with large numbers of

blacks and Latinos shopping mainly at predominantly small, ethnically-

owned businesses where prices are high and selections and quality are

low, with giant 'chains' staying away, possibly from a history

of 'riots'. Your ratings and critiques are invited and most

welcome. If you rate harshly or very critically, please submit a

helpful and constructive comment; please share your superior

Enjoy! (or at least be more knowledgeable) John

Are emblematic of the South Central area of Los Angeles, where store owners feel threat of riot and burglary are serious enough to install such fencing, which is more a deterrent to rioting mobs.

This particular day, and most others, the neighborhood is quiet and calm -- with Vermont Street where this was taken, being a broad boulevard that could, in nicer times or in a different area, be a great throughway because of its magnificent width.

But here it's lined with storefront fundamentalist churches, liquor shops, poor businesses, and generally neglected by major retailers -- reason being probably (1) not enough money and (2) too great a risk for damage from past problems with (a) crime and (b) mob problems when there is infrequent racial unrest.

... the dwelling place of God, is here on Vermont in the streets of Los Angeles. Probably more likely here than on the streets of Beverly Hills.

About how much easier it is for a camel to get through the eye of a needle than a rich man into heaven. (In an initial post, I got that one screwed up, apologies to readers, JC).

Where else but in South Central Los Angeles?

They need it more.

In Beverly Hills, etc., they have Kaballah or whatever else is the (faux) religion of the week.

Best.

It always brightens my day (even my week or month) when I hear from you.

Now go be a stranger for a while (all in a good cause).
