dave_dube 10 Posted June 26, 2007 Sun was filtering through background vegetation, the light orbs seem to work well, adding a shape for variation. Thoughts? Link to comment
katzpjs 50 Posted June 26, 2007 I love the soft circles of light in the background. Those are what make this image a 6/6 in my mind. Great work! Link to comment
dave_dube 10 Posted June 26, 2007 Thanks Shawn! Yes, without those it would just be another lily photo. Link to comment
vicenteconcha 8 Posted June 26, 2007 Soft light, privacy in the garden. Precious. Greetings. Vicente. Link to comment
hy 0 Posted June 27, 2007 Nice colors, light and a very good dof in this composition. Great job. Best regards - Hasan Link to comment
srr 0 Posted June 27, 2007 Yes, great bokeh on the orbs, so I'm guessing pretty wide open aperature - yet plenty good depth. Comp is good too. Maybe patch that little bright spot in the middle LLC? And (got this from you) can anything be done about the bright spot in the far LLC? 6/7. PS, what created the orbs? Link to comment
dave_dube 10 Posted June 27, 2007 Thanks everyone! Really appreciate the comments, of course not everyone likes this photo. Now Scott, if I told you that, I'd be giving you a secret. I'll think about it. Also, yes that spot will go in the final version. I posted this as totally not manipulated, I haven't done a thing to this photo. Many that rate, or even comment don't go to 'Detail' and see that this has had nothing done to it. Dave Link to comment
andrea allison 0 Posted June 27, 2007 Very beautiful Dave! I love the color and light here. The orbs (light) gives me a feeling of a underwater garden. Great composition! Like the framing.. Kind Regards Andrea Link to comment

mmmee 0 Posted June 27, 2007 I have no idea how you got those round light spots in the background. I will guess that its a reflection from a light reflector you may have been using. However you did the globes, it makes the background of this shot very interesting and adds a lot to the artistic composition. It looks like the two lilies are talking in the early morning light. The shadows and light areas add even more depth to the composition and give the lily conversation more mystery, more life. I would take out the bright white spots, especially the lower left one, maybe clone it. I would not crop it out as you need all the area you have on the left for the top lily. Very original composition. Link to comment
jeverz 0 Posted June 28, 2007 Beautiful light and colors, i think its my favourite of your flower-photo's. Well done. Link to comment
pnital 36 Posted June 29, 2007 Interesting light and well placed the flowers in the frame, looks like a frame within a frame...nice shallow DOF complets the image. very nice. Link to comment
mmmee 0 Posted June 30, 2007 I am interested. Next... You layer them and do something, I know not what to the background. It is a lot more blurred and the orbs are bigger. I am totally lost. Link to comment
dave_dube 10 Posted June 30, 2007 No, no Maggie. The photo of the grass just shows where the reflecting light comes from that creates the orbs. I have done nothing to the photos. When I focus on the flowers and have my camera set with an f/2.8 aperture, the OOF light reflecting off of the grass creates the orbs. Remember your comment about a halo, it's the same type of effect. With my lens at 150mm and an f/2.8, the background is brought up close but OOF.I think this should help. Link to comment
mmmee 0 Posted June 30, 2007 oh yes, that helps a lot. Incredible that the reflections form circles. I have to try this. It is so very unusual and lovely. Not sure why I think its morning light, but I will try this in evening light as you have done. Link to comment
dave_dube 10 Posted July 1, 2007 Yes ~ In photography, Bokeh is a Japanese word - the transliteration of a Japanese word for "blur" - describing the subjective aesthetic quality of out-of-focus areas of an image projected by a camera lens. The larger the aperture and the more distance from the focused area, the more intense the Bokeh. You almost have a couple of orbs in the lower right. The real hot spot in the top center is distracting however. Link to comment
susan stone 0 Posted July 3, 2007 Thanks for the lesson Dave, yes the orbs help make the image but the composition and the lighting are also very appealing. You've done a nice job with the framing too. And yup the 3/3er's came to visit again.....aaarrrgggh! Link to comment
susan stone 0 Posted July 3, 2007 Forgot to mention that I find the bright white spot in the lower left VERY distracting and would suggest editing it out. Link to comment
