The deep old growth forest. A light rain, no breeze, a transcendent

quiet that permeates the senses in this world of life. A few openings

here and there. An overcast day and soft light from everywhere. An

observent eye and a slow walk. A beauty seen but rarely captured.

Absolutely complex with great detail even in the background, you couldnt have chosen a getter angle either. Well done!

Great rain forest study Marc! I am reminded of a collection of Robert Glenn Ketchum prints refered to as "Order from Chaos". Here we have a complicated composition that reveals, as you say, natures complexities. These images have a quality of their own. Not bold or majestic, yet extremely inviting, asking the viewer to wonder what lies beyond, but not before lingering in the nearby understory. These portrayals of nature are captivating, at least from my viewpoint. I think this would make an excellent large print because of all of the detail. So well done.

That is absolutely stunning for a single exposure! I would have guessed HDR for sure. It looks very surreal. I wouldn't have thought of using a circular polarizer in the forest, but it looks like it turned out great and now I have a new technique to try. Thanks!

The temperate rainforest of Northwest North America is so incredibly difficult to capture. I have a small piece on my own property (not as rich as this) but have yet to translate even a small portion of the primeval magic of it into a noteworthy image. I really like this and it captures the feeling of the forest but with so much green, so much diversity, I think it fails to grab - the inherent challenge in rainforest captures. I've seen great work with a 12 ft. ladder to gain a better perspective on the forest floor while framing with a succession of trees for depth (which almost works here) and central focus. I'll guess Queets watershed?

mike s,are you using dodge and burn tools in photoshop though? That is why this photo has that extra atmosphere as he has used the dodge and burn tools to enhance the image so perhaps you could also try using them on your forest images to help

This is a beautiful picture. I was just wondering.... how do you get such natural looking colors? Also, and I'm sure you hear this a lot, would you do me the incredible favour of taking a look at my gallery. I am an aspiring landscape photographer, and would love any and all feedback from you. I have less than a year and a half experience with the camera, less than half of that spent shooting landscape. I'm still working on developing my own style.
