You may notice that this shot is almost identical to a previous one in the same folder. The other shot had no interest in the upper portions of the sky and there was much controversy about sharpness (which is probably my fault for not resharpening or sharpening at all for that matter!). So, I've been waiting for a month and have not been able to get a decent sunset until the other night. I milked this one for all it was worth, spending an hour shooting about 100 frames with every filter, combination of filters, composition, and exposure I could think of. I'd love to hear your thoughts on this shot. I have cropped it a bit on all sides down from the original composition so if you have any thoughts on it I'd love to know. Please let me know what you think of this shot compared to the previous one, assuming you see enough different between them (this is the first time I've ever been successful trying to "replicate" a sunset shot, although I do think this one is better). If sharpness is a problem in this shot then it's definitely resizing and post-processing because the original is sharp as a tack. Thanks for all the help and comments!

Okay, I've looked over both and wish for a bit from each...I prefer the clarity here, but the colors of the sky there; I prefer the clouds in the sky for interest versus the plain sky of the other. Both crops are fine, IMO. The light on the upper supports is nice in both. I love the lines and the overall composition. Does this help at all?

Leslie--OF COURSE your response helps! (although I admit it did confuse me a bit for a moment!) As with any time I've shot a scene multiple times, there are always parts of each shot that I prefer. I do like more bright, sunset color in the sky (which this one has) but the other one is also neat in that the sky looks like a perfectly painted, flawless backdrop. I think most of the clarity issue in the other one is my lack of post-processing skill--the original looks pretty good, although this version may be better. I need to get some other frames edited and posted and also will be shooting this scene many more times as the sun starts to march back South so please check back and let me know what you think. Thanks for stopping by and taking the time to comment--I appreciate it greatly and will try to return the favor soon!

I like this one better bec of the longer span of the bridge. It's a beautiful sunset with most lovely colours. ( Maybe I would not keep the bottom grassground. If it is mine, I'll just crop until where the water is )

Tyler,

Both are beautiful. If I changed anything at all it may be camera angle. I'd tilt it up just a fraction so you see more of the sky and less of the marsh in the foreground.

Zack--Thanks for your comments...this is a crop...the original does show much more sky but the bridge is smaller so I went with this. I'll try to get some of the others posted for comparison. I shot just about every composition I could think of...I'd say this is probably the equivalent of about 70mm but I have many shots taken at 35 with little to no marsh foreground. Thanks for the comment--stay tuned for alternate versions!

I think you have resolved your sharpness issue. JPEG compression is going to leave you with some artifacts depending on what algorithym you use. I see that submissions for next year's bridge run art-design contest are being accepted up to August 13th I think. vertical or square format so it can fit on a tee shirt. YOU SHOULD ENTER. here's the link -- contest entry link--regards, J.K.
