owen_omeara 1 Posted June 24, 2007 The fact that this is the first comment on this image bothers me a great deal. It is one of the most brilliant and refreshing images I have seen on this site in the last year. I would love for you to post it on PhotoPoints where it can get some of the attention that it deserves. Do not take the lack or response here as a negative. As a professional photographer of women I can only say that I am blown away by it. The concept is wonderful and the execution is brilliant. Bravo for this image and please keep up this caliber of work. -Owen Link to comment
biancavanderwerf 0 Posted June 24, 2007 Hahaha, thank you so very very much Owen for your kind words..... As a matter of fact, I was a bit doubtful when nobody reacted. It's a bit different than what I usally make (I always want to walk on new paths, haha) and therefor I thought that it was not so likeable as I hoped. It stays a funny process when you get quit happy about one of your own that other people maybe frown their brows and when you think 'mwhahhh' others get all excited haha... I never get used to it :-) This light picture made me happy and I am very pleased that you like it too. Thanks!! P.S. What is Photopoints? Is it a different site? I would like to know more about it, greetz! Link to comment
owen_omeara 1 Posted June 24, 2007 Photopoints is another site that I started posting to some time ago. some of the things that I like about it are the international artists that post there as well as the fact that people always leave comments on your work. There are no phantom raters that don't identify themselves. I have been very pleased there and use it as my primary site. I have also made some good contacts there that have helped in the sale of my work. The URL for the site is Best regards. -Owen Link to comment
biancavanderwerf 0 Posted June 24, 2007 Thank you so much for your reaction, I will have a look :-):-):-) Exciting! Bye Owen!! Link to comment
erveer 0 Posted June 24, 2007 Very powerful photograph, Bianca. Strong, mysterious direct look. Almost two different worlds. The picture reminds me a bit of an venetians mask. A different serie? Another great picture !!! The best regards, Rene Link to comment
davidmccracken 2 Posted June 25, 2007 I read Owen's comment yesterday and I thought I would a little while befor commenting on this. It does appear that comments are becoming fewer on this site. Having said that, we have to wade through more and more 'crap' (for want of a better word) before finding something good. Owen certainly knows what he is talking about and I wouldn't doubt anything he says (unless he said it was my round.) Serioulsy. There is no doubt that this is extremely creative and original but I personally don't like looking at it. I really can't explain why. I hope you understand what I mean. You know I am a great admirer of your work. Link to comment
biancavanderwerf 0 Posted June 25, 2007 Hi David! Thanks for your hounest opnion. I really appreciate it you know that. As a matter of fact, it's funny but I reallllly want to know why you feel so uncomfortable. I placed this one on a dutch site as well and normally I have about 40 reactions and now 11 I think. So you are not alone in your feelings :-):-) But I like this one and I wanted to make a serie about it. The look on her face makes me a bit uncomfortable as well, but that was the meaning behind it (you know I don't like the glamourthings about photography :-):-). Is it the postprocessing of this image? Before I make a study of it.. it would help me a lot when you crawl a bit deeper into your feelings, haha. Would REALLY appreciate it my friend! thanks! owen_omeara 1 Posted June 25, 2007 Take what David says seriously and take what i say seriously as well. He and I have discussed your work via e-mail in the past and both of us agree on your fantastic talent. This image is very different and that is why we both like it a great deal. I think it is simply that the emotional impact is different for each of us. This is a hard image and that is it's beauty for me. I think you should do a series without question and he would agree with me on that. You have to realize that he is a Scot and I am Irish, so there will never be total agreement between us. -Owen Link to comment
owen_omeara 1 Posted June 25, 2007 Here is one of mine that would stimulate the same type of diversity of responses. -Owen Link to comment
biancavanderwerf 0 Posted June 25, 2007 Hahahaha, that is quit funny and yet a bit sad what you've said about the two of you.... I didn't know that you were 'friends' as well, cool!!! I totally understand what you are showing me right now and I understand why people would love this picture of yours or they cannot grasp the atmosphere (it's a bit difficult for me in English). For me this is an amazing picture. It makes my eyes a bit teary right now. It's just rock bottom in a place where I've been before. Very vulnerable, emotional and strong picture Owen... I am so impressed. And that is not because you say this kind words to me, haha. Thanks for showing me what you meant, really great! Link to comment
owen_omeara 1 Posted June 25, 2007 Thank you for looking and commenting on it. It was from an incredible shoot five years ago. -Cheers Link to comment
davidmccracken 2 Posted June 26, 2007 Bianca, Sometimes it is difficult to explain why you like or dislike something. I like raw carrots but I cannot stand cooked carrots. I guess the easiest thing to do would have been to leave no comment whatsoever. Surely if there had been no comments here when I first saw the image, that is what I would have done. In offering my opinion, I was merely suggesting that no matter how creative it is sometimes the simple aesthetics of an image spoil it for the viewer. Tastes vary. Let's be honest. If we all took photos the same way or if we all liked the same things, this would be a very boring site. Forgive me if I cannot give you a definitive reason for not liking it. As for Owen's image. I like it as an image but it is one I would not chose to look at too often. The lady in the picture looks sad and cornered. I have no doubt his intention was to portray her along those lines and he has succeeded very well in doing so. However, it is not something I would hang on my wall. Link to comment
