Greetings from Bronx!

I really like this photo. I'm probably rating it higher than what will be the average rating, but I like the level of contrast, relatively few hues (mostly green, yellow to brown, black) painterly composition (I'm thinking of contemporary composition, the New Leipzig school inparticular). It feels surrealist and contemporary and also like sharp, modern wildlife photography. If the giraffe was a rockstar this would be its album cover.

 

In the right space it would look good really big if the resolution is there to keep it "photorealistic."

I find the black background strangely disconcerting -- almost ominous. But, maybe its just me.

There was a strong contrast of light in that place, Ian, a wall of dark trees in the background. Afterwards, I processed the RAW intensifying shadows to create this effect.

I think this is an effective way of extracting this beautiful animal from his surroundings. Giraffes are colored to blend in, so usually they seem drab against drab backgrounds. This effectively isolates the giraffe, almost making the scene glowing. Very nice.

The contrast of dark bg & golden grass is very good. Make the giraffe stand out from the image.

P.S. I wasn't saying I disliked the black bg. I just find it ominous -- I expect some evil thing to come forth out of it.
