Guest Guest Posted June 18, 2007 Amazing. The emotion in this persons face is so intense. His eyes are haunting and distant. The smooth light meets the coarseness of the subject. One could only guess what he is thinking. I love your use of light in this shot. Also, the reflections are priceless and perfect. I belive this should be the photo of the week. Link to comment
tammysphotos 0 Posted June 18, 2007 A powerful composition, indeed. The lighting is superb. The intensity of his eyes, even in the reflections, is remarkable. I applaud your model for expressing himself so powerfully - such raw emotion. I agree, this should be photo of the week. Link to comment

aslavihervuori 0 Posted June 18, 2007 Oh dear! Very impressive. Strong contrasts (for example dark-light values, shiny, clear surface of piano(?)- textured skin) and unique composition and balance of them really makes this work for me. It is great photo. one to be proud of. No ratings but respect, a s l a Link to comment
atkphotoworks 0 Posted June 19, 2007 Em this is totally cool, intense and disturbing (his expression). I love it. It's like a triple threat. I really like the triangular composition you've captured here. His beard and general demeanour give the impression that he has been up for a while and struggling to find something. Link to comment

michaelhills 0 Posted June 22, 2007 Thank you, thank you to all of you. This is a very powerful reinforcement that my photography is evolving for the better (well, I think so anyway!). For those that are interested, this was all done in camera, except for the monochrome conversion and a little burning in the darks. Lighting was achieved through a single tungsten softbox at right of frame. Reflections courtesy of the cafe's metallic serving bench and the metallic coffee machine ;) However, all credit goes to Brian for his amazing control of his body and expression. M :) Link to comment
tomhallphotography 0 Posted December 10, 2010 This is MAGIC! I can't help being drawn in by the intensity! The other thing that I think makes this image so appealing is that there are two reflections and both reinforce your subject's expression. Before I read your description and how you executed the image, I actually thought he was slouching over a piano with the lid closed while visualizing a piece he was either about to play or write.I think that story would give his expression and hand shape so much more context! michaelhills 0 Posted May 5, 2011 Thanks, Tom! Actually, most people upon viewing this thinks Brian is on a piano... I think next time, I might actially get him on a grand piano and have some with that too!And mate, thank you so much for your kind comments on my portfolio...em :) Link to comment
