I like chair and the positing of the model on the chair. I feel the curve of the chair is the same curve we see in the model; the way she leans into the chair gives her the same curves as the chair. The lighting is simple and effective. What I do not like are not necessarily things you had control over; the scarf on the neck, the head band, and the eye makeup. They are a bit distracting and a bit 80?s. I am also not keen on seeing the finger tips.

Over all I do like it.

I, too, like the combination of animate and inanimate curves. I might tend to agree on the fingertip thing, but it's not that big a deal, and I'm sure you could make them disappear if you wished.

I sometimes favor accessories such as necklaces, scarves, jewelry, etc., so those look fine to me, as does the eye makeup. This is sort of a glamour portrait, in my opinion, so why not punch it up a bit? Nothing wrong with a little dramatic eye treatment now and then...and is that a tiny piercing in her nose? If so, nice detail.

Jason, Thanks for the honest critique. It seems they are becoming rarer and rarer here on p.n. The curve of the chair and the model helped me derive the title of the shot. I feel you have seen the photograph but not the title and so that makes me happy. (If I am wrong, please don't tell me! Let me have my moment of pride.)

The things you don't like are quite interesting. I am not really a fan of the finger tips either. Removing them as Jim suggests is one suggestion. The other might have been to include more of them. Who knows? As for the head band and make up, this shot came about because a make-up artist in Hong Kong wanted me to take some shots for her MUA profile on Model Mayhem. I was happy to do so. Personally, I like the head band and make-up. If we all liked the same things, the world would be a boring place. Thanks again.

Jim, Much of what I said to Jason applies to you and so I will not repeat myself myself. I am well aware that this image is lacking punch. I actually uploaded a version with even less punch than this. I quickly removed it. (I am fully aware that the 'punching it up' you are referring to refers to the accessories and make-up.)

Yes Jim! You have a good eye. That is a tiny piercing in her nose.

Thanks a lot guys! I do appreciate it.

I like the image a good deal. It reminds me a great deal of one of Edward Westons images as well as one of his grandson Kim's. I like the headband and make up as well but do have to agree with either of the two options you mentioned regarding the finger nails. I would like to see it with a bit more contrast, as you might guess I would.

The facial capture is excellent as is the bpdy positioning in the chair.

I hope you did, or will do, more with this young lady.

I love the new self portrait.

-Cheers

Thanks a lot Owen. Being compared to the Westons makes me feel like I am in very good company. I do agree with you about the contrast. This was the 'punch' I was meaning when replying to Jim. Thanks again Owen.

To clarify. I think you might have misunderstood my comments. I wasn't suggesting the image needed more punch, but was saying that I think you already had the punch here by using the head band and the neck band. They add visual points of interest for me.

As far as more contrast goes, I can take it either way. I like the way you have it here, but also think it would look equally good with a darker background.

Really I think the only way to "improve" this image would have been to maybe show her hands.

No Jim, I got you 100%. If you read my comment above carefully (which I will admit is written like a pig's breakfast) you will see that it is me who thinks the image needs more punch.

Thanks for you comment regarding the background and contrast though.
