This photograph was taken in the northern part of the Serengeti (Tanzania), just before you cross into Masai Mara (Kenya)

Thanks Bert. I think photographers should get extra credit when they take a good photo in the wild as opposed in a wildlife park or zoo here in the states. Your shot looks very natural and that's why I ask. Good work.

Your comment above is actually very interesting. I do not take pictures in a Zoo, for instance, because I have a sense of sadness when I see Lions or Elephants penned up in a comparatively very small area. I know and understand all the arguments for Zoos and I am intellectually not opposed to them. Emotionally, however, I cannot find peace within a Zoo. Just yesterday, my wife and I visited the Butterfly Conservatory in Niagara Falls. I fotographed some wonderful examples but I felt like shooting fish in a barrel.

Traversing the huge expanses of the Serengeti/Masai Mara, or Zimbabwe's Hwange or Madusadona Region, or canoeing down the Zambezi River, makes me feel as if I were part of the world around me and all the Animals were equal partners. Call me weird, or strange...call me what you will...but that's the way I feel. All the pictures you will find in my portfolio were taken in the wild....Bert

My sentiments exactly Bert. The only thing that makes me waver ever so slightly is that it isn't financially feasible for many people to travel to the wildlife parks of Africa. However, I really appreciate it when posters mention it if a wildlife photo is take in a zoo or in a location that is non-native to the species. I had the good fortune to visit south and east Africa several times in the 80's and early 90's. Unfortunately, this was in my pre-digital days and I haven't gotten around to scanning any of it. Look forward to seeing more of your work.

Please GungaJim, do not misunderstand me. I am not against Zoos. How else would people who cannot travel to Africa f,i, see and learn about these wonderful animals. I spoke only of myself and my personal feelings...Thanks again...Bert
