Matt Laur 2,201 Posted June 5, 2007 This brace of pointers is working a covey of Bob White quail in the flowering cover. Thanks for looking, and for feedback. Link to comment
timzeipekis 5 Posted June 5, 2007 I love the lighting, I think the composition is nice as well as the DOF. The dog in the back is well placed and just out of focus enough not to draw attention away from the main subject. I like it, nice job. Link to comment
emre 0 Posted November 29, 2007 I think this would have looked nicer with a longer lens and more collinear to the dogs. Link to comment
Matt Laur 2,201 Posted December 3, 2007 Thanks, all. Emre: I think you're right. The problem with shots like this is the total inability to control the situation... what people seem to like about the shots is that I'm willing to get out into the field, amongst running dogs and people with shotguns, to capture what's happening from relatively close to the action. That allows me to feel what's going on with the dogs and anticipate the next moments a bit better. But you're very right that a 300/f4 would be perfect for this sort of thing, and it's on my list. I've started using a TC1.7 on my 70-200 when I know I have enough light to preserve IQ... and that has helped me to achieve exactly what you're talking about. Truly, I appreciate the feedback.
