Heath Spotted Orchid

davidclapp

This rather wonderful specimen was found in the New Forest, a relatively common orchid but none the less a beauty. Luckily the New Forest plants grow in open heathland so they remain relatively small as they dont have to compete with surrounding grass and vegetation, other examples I have photographed are so tall and spindly you never get to see the remarkable patterns on leaves.

EOS 5D, 300mm + 2xII f6.3 1/640th ISO400 (it was windy!)
