Landrum Kelly 65 Posted February 28, 2002 Great shot! That is so crisp, but I see you were using 400 film--even so, it came out really well. I hope he got that foot loose. Lannie Link to comment
Wayne Melia 6,037 Posted February 28, 2002 Here's another sports action shot. Obviously I make no artistic claims about this photo. Can it have merits on content, not artistry? Naturally all comments and (especially constructive) criticisms welcomed. Thanks for viewing. Link to comment
niloy_chakrabarty 0 Posted February 28, 2002 Great shot, would have been better if legs of the horse were not trimmed. Also I prefer the hand of the person not touching the edge of the photo. Link to comment
birds so fine 0 Posted February 28, 2002 Just a little too tight on the hoofs and the left hand; otherwise, this is a great photojournalism and art image. Link to comment
pete w 0 Posted March 1, 2002 Wayne, Excellent job! Hope someday we will meet on the rodeo trail. Take Care Pete Link to comment
gwen_barlee1 0 Posted March 1, 2002 wel done, wish there was a little more room around the edges, just a minor nit tho Link to comment
volker_stiller1 0 Posted March 1, 2002 I agree about the tightness. A little bit wider would have been better. OTOH, I really like the background. It looks almost like a studio backdrop. Link to comment
Wayne Melia 6,037 Posted March 1, 2002 for all comments. Suggestions for not cropping quite so tight noted and appreciated. Bottom on hoofs was framing in original, RHS was in selective cropping choice. Link to comment
cameron_beebe1 0 Posted March 1, 2002 I actually think that it's kind of distracting that the distracting background was removed (at least to the extent that it was). As a poster above noted, it looks like a studio backdrop...not real. The first thing I noticed when I saw this was "it's fake". An otherwise excellent photograph would have been better (I think) if the background had been left in to give it context. Link to comment
brucepercy 0 Posted March 2, 2002 Best photo I've seen in ages on this site. Never mind the comments regarding the cropping - the image works. Nothing more needs to be said. Link to comment
dave_bazzel1 0 Posted March 3, 2002 If at all possible I'd like to see this a little less tightly cropped. Good action shot though. Nice work, --Dave Link to comment
gk photography 0 Posted March 8, 2002 Beautiful rodeo shot. It's very hard to eliminate the distracting backgrounds (I know--see my own shots) so I'm all the more impressed with the way you did it. Thanks for sharing! Link to comment
duane_kucheran 0 Posted March 19, 2002 Truly a decisive moment. We know what comes next - ouch! Link to comment
jimknowles 0 Posted May 26, 2003 But not down ... yet! Good job nailing the action at the decisive moment, Wayne! Yup - he's going to hit the ground - and maybe even get tromped on - but in this picture, he's frozen in mid air forever. And don't kid yourself, this is an image every cowboy artist / painter has tried to capture. Cowboy limbo. Horse ballet. Whatever you want to call it, beautiful image, Wayne. Link to comment
sarahunderhill 1 Posted June 12, 2004 7/7 This is THE great rodeo shot....I see it was posted in 2002,,,I don't understand any low ratings on this one. Link to comment
mg 0 Posted February 11, 2008 I think you caugfht a really amazing moment here. What I don't really like is the tight crop on man's hand and horse's legs. Any chance to see the uncropped original - especially if there was more space at the bottom or on the right...? Link to comment
Wayne Melia 6,037 Posted February 22, 2008 Thanks for the comments; they ARE appreciated. FWIW; attached is the original with the hoofs still amputated by poor shooting aim. Link to comment
