jan_piller 0 Posted May 30, 2007 So when the 3/3 raters finally chase me off photography forever, I'll have a good use for my tripod! My monopod will become a collapsible walking stick. Very clever! hahahaha Link to comment
bertr 0 Posted May 30, 2007 Hi Jan;Surely you will not allow the jerks of this world, with their tiny tiny brains, determine your photographic actions. Such intellectual scum really does not bother me and it should not bother you either. You have too much talent for that...Bert Link to comment
jan_piller 0 Posted May 30, 2007 Not so bad yourself! (I don't do much PS by the way - I just use tricks! like scotch tape and fishing line!) This is so awsomely clever! Not great to keep the rain off though. Link to comment
bertr 0 Posted May 30, 2007 What rain, pray tell? What is it that you do with Scotch Tape and fishing line??? Link to comment
jan_piller 0 Posted May 30, 2007 I would have thought torrential downpours would be common. - about the photoshop - you had left a comment on my birdcage about having to learn photoshop. But there's very little photoshop in that picture. JUst fishing line and scotchtape. The whole image is lightpainted. The shot was taken that way. I assumed when you said you must learn photoshop that you thought the image had been photoshopped somehow. Link to comment
bertr 0 Posted May 31, 2007 Hi Jan...Your assumption is correct. I thought that this image with the two feathers was photoshopped. Particularly when the other suggestion came along which had the feathers falling down...Anyway, can you please explain how you accomplished such lovely images?.... You are correct, there is a rainy season in Africa...but I stayed away then..I spent time there right after the rainy season, when all is green and lush and during the hight of the dry season when everything is tan, brown and earthen...We spent time in Kenya, Tanzania, Zimbabwe, Botswana and a short time in Zambia. We made 7 trips, each lasting about a month...those were the days, my dear, we thought they'd never end....(lovely song)...If you are interested, I have some slide shows about my Africa trips on www.photodex.com (ProShow gold) I did those with music and voice over commentary..If you are interested I will tell you how to get there...Bert Link to comment
jan_piller 0 Posted May 31, 2007 The bird cage shots were lightpainted with a modified flashlight. The feathers in the landscape version were strung with fishing line from the ceiling. I did the portrait version after I got my new tripod and got smart and put scotch tape on the back of the feather and actually stuck the feather to the backdrop. I believe they were about 20 second exposures in a pitch black room and I "painted" the light on with a flashlight(a flashlight I modified to take out the brightest spot and then I left it on so the batteries would die down a bit) The bird of paradise flower was also light painted. I'l like to see the slide show! Can you send me a link? I have to watch it from home - I have no sound here. Link to comment
