The morning air was still cool in the Midi Pyrenees so the warmth ofthe sun made a welcome contrast, presaging the heat of the day to come.

Comments and crits welcome (but please note that it is notintended as a "glamour" shot which is why she is too small to be seenin detail).

its nice to get a feel for the location, as the title suggests, but it has left you with a tiny main subject. Personally, I'd prefer to see it zoomed up to just focusing on the window/shutters and the lady of the moment without so much of the bottom half of the shot (but thats just me).

Hope thats of some use. cheers, Rob

Gotta disagree with Bob. This is a picture of a house and an environment, made all the more lovely by the figure. It's particularly appropriate that she has long hair, rather than some plainly contemporary style; this could be a picture from a time machine of some long-forgotten intrigue (perhaps she is sending a signal to her forbidden prince?).

Spot on Barry! The house, originally a Knights Templar commanderie, has a very positive human feel to it (I found out this week, just after leaving, that it is said to be haunted) and has long been involved in fine art - painting and sculpture. I wanted to express the impression that the stones were also waking up to the sun and basking in its warmth. So the figure is intended to convey that link and the tradition of appreciating beauty.

I see your interpretation, too. And interestingly, without the woman, this would be a dull picture; just a document of the construction. Without the house, it would be just another picture of a woman's back. With the two together, everything jumps into place. We feel the warmth of the wall because we can imagine the sun on the woman's back. The woman becomes more intriguing because she's (innocently? teasingly?) showing herself in the window. It's a synergy: she and the house complement each other.

And, of course, you probably composed it this way, but do you see how the edge of the house against the sky parallels the woman's profile from the top of her head, to her right shoulder, then down her arm? Then how her left arm points down to the branch that runs by the lower window? There's much going on in this image.

Yes, I like the idea of "reflected" shapes and I quite often include them in my pics (especially clouds apparently reflecting things on the ground). It helps to create a kind of visual empathy between the elements.

Thank you for your time and interest. I think this kind of discussion is just what makes photo.net so stimulating.

Well, Jonathan, after seeong her long her, I looked around for Romeo. It's good when an imgae creates so many associations.
