Your title alone is worth a 10! It's a wonderful thought and says a lot. I think the portrait itself would be a bit more effective if there were more light and less shadow on his face, especially some highlights in his eyes. This is a good idea, the side lighting, and adds drama, but it could have been supplemented by a bit more light coming from the front.

Thanks Fred for your comment, and I take on board your solution for a more atheistically pleasing portrait. After processing the shot I too found that there was a lack of light at the front and it is a point that I will take on board :)
