Tech stuff ~ F/5.6, 1/1500 and ISO 400 at a focal length of 400 +

the 1.5x = 600mm. This was hand held so, it might have been better

on a tripod.

Nice capture Dave. From what I understand it's hard to see these birds. Particularly one out in the open like this. Good eye.

The composition itself is good & cute. Definitely would be perfect if a tripod is used but sometimes I find myself limited by the position & flexibility of using a tripod, so I usually go without it & used hand-held instead. At the same time, I missed out on the sharpness of many good shots.

Leroy, you are very correct out the difficulty. First off, they live in areas of marsh that have a foot or two of water. They don't usually pop up much above the inner layer. Right now is an excellent time since they are building their nests and doing a lot of singing for mating. Their nests are just at the level where it starts to become thick. Generally, you can hear them but not see them, as you indicated.

Thank you Cherlyn for your comments.

Yes - "wow" is a perfectly acceptable critique. That's my story and I'm sticking to it! Wow! okay - well this one is a double "wow" . What a great capture!
