aginbyte 0 Posted May 10, 2007 ... this is in Normandie? I don't recall ever seeing any land like this. Looked on the map, just east of St. Malo. It looks like a wasteland. Link to comment
henrimanguy 0 Posted May 10, 2007 Indeed, Dennis, it is very impressive when you pass in car on the bridge over this brown water flowing in what seems like a desert, devastated land of an end of the world. In fact it is the low tide in the Mount Saint-Michel bay. Here, the sea recedes as far as several kilometers, leaving a landscape of mud as far as the eye can see. Link to comment
aginbyte 0 Posted May 10, 2007 ... had no idea it alternated back and forth so far. So this boat will be active at high tide, I see now that it is actually moored! Maybe they'll be going out and getting oysters later. Link to comment
rekaras 0 Posted May 11, 2007 I like this composition a great deal although the contrast is a little flat. You viewpoint is well chosen and the lines of water and land flow nicely. Well cone my friend, rek. Link to comment
alexandra rauh 0 Posted May 13, 2007 Henri,i like that little sharp boat in all this empty, far going out land. Great perspective Link to comment
dorota kaminska 0 Posted May 14, 2007 Horrifying landscape..but very good composed picture! Link to comment
davidorea 1 Posted May 14, 2007 Amazing photograph, Henri. Excellent composition, pov, colors, forms and DOF. Best regards! Link to comment
ldavidson 4 Posted May 14, 2007 The cute little boat run aground in the middle of a barren wasteland looks like a post-apocalyptic landscape! So sad, dark and depressing, and beautifully captured. I would love to see this in B&W, or sepia. Very interesting and absorbing image. Link to comment
photos of hans koot 0 Posted May 14, 2007 great photo, the boat adds scale to this photo! Link to comment
maria hrabinska 0 Posted May 15, 2007 Excellent shot, Henri, with a great exposure and composition of a horror scene with some human elements/symbolic. This image is radiating a very strong messages about us and our lifes.regards, maria Link to comment
henrimanguy 0 Posted May 16, 2007 Thank you all for your kind comments. But, and above all for Maria, don't be so pessimistic, this image just shows the low tide in the Mont St-Michel's bay, where the sea is receding as far as several kilometers. The landscape is no doubt a bit depressing but there is nothing dramatic here, just a natural thing. Link to comment
fhmillard 0 Posted May 17, 2007 Excellent photograph. What makes the water that color? Do people drink this water? Link to comment
henrimanguy 0 Posted May 17, 2007 Oh! no, nobody drinks this water. It is sea water. Its colour is due to the sand and silt were it flows. All this area is covered by the sea at high tide, but only during the "spring tide" (with high coefficient). Link to comment
whinterberger 0 Posted May 17, 2007 The composition is , of course , spot on. However , when it comes to aesthetics , it would be ease to confuse the subject with the photograph. The subject is pretty ugly , but as a photograph it is attractive in a sad kind of way. As a design it would be better as a B/W , have you tried that , Henri ? You would , of course , lose the revolting colour of the water , which in this shot is important ...what do you think ? Link to comment
henrimanguy 0 Posted May 18, 2007 Yes Walter, I have a black & white version, see above. You indeed lose the ugly colour of the water but I find the landscape even though keeps its aspect of repulsion/fascination. Link to comment
carsten_ranke 0 Posted May 19, 2007 A B&W was my first thought when I opened this. I much prefer your monochrome to the color version. Link to comment
paula grenside 0 Posted May 22, 2007 A desolate landscape, Henri. I prefer the color version because the dull colors contribute to enhance the desolation. Link to comment
seandepuydt 2 Posted May 22, 2007 Henri, this is a very interesting image, lots of detail and textures. Did you compose any shots without the sky? - Sean Link to comment
henrimanguy 0 Posted May 22, 2007 Thank you Carsten, Paula and Seen. No, Seen, when the sky is interesting and adds to the photo, I take it. Here, it was totaly empty, and above all I found that the landscape had enough interest and impact in itself. I have two other shots of this landscape in another moment of the day where I have left no place at all for the sky. Link to comment
antanas.strazdas 0 Posted May 22, 2007 Perfect composition, very interesting landscape, great work, best regards. Link to comment
mspanakis 0 Posted June 27, 2007 this is extraordinary! certainly not B&W. The colour of the water is too informative to miss. Link to comment
