kenrick 0 Posted May 10, 2007 I have to reciprocate. "photo contest, photo contest" I feel proud to have a canon rebel after seeing this. Inspirational work Roger. Link to comment
vancouverphotographer 0 Posted May 10, 2007 Excellent capture of the light and patterns in B/W. Link to comment
rogerleekam 0 Posted May 10, 2007 Thanks, gentlemen. Kenrick, all the Digital Rebels are marvels of engineering at a moderate price. I really believe that the only limitations on the XTi are behind and in front of it (photographer and lens). Also believe that the original Rebel is destined to be a classic, and I regret having sold mine. Nikon D80 is also a marvel, but Canon lenses are better. Link to comment
kenrick 0 Posted May 10, 2007 Roger I still question my choice of the Rebel XTi over the D80. It's like you read my mind but this is certainly reassuring. Link to comment
JohnMWright 1 Posted May 10, 2007 Outstanding! The perspective is great, the lines leading the eye into the background are very strong. The tones you captured are just amazing, and I love the texture. I've seen this sort of photo before, but this one is the best I've seen. Link to comment
rogerleekam 0 Posted May 10, 2007 Thanks, John. The sun only hits the courtyard at this angle this time of year. Link to comment
japi 1 Posted May 17, 2007 I love this photo. Wish I knew how to do it. I have tried a number of perspectives but never seem to get the DOF, sharpness and light, all right at the same time. This one is perfect. Congrats, Roger, great work. Greetings from Portugal. Link to comment
bob_belanger 1 Posted July 9, 2007 Very nicely done. The leading lines and the light are excellent. Link to comment

mvisionphotography 1 Posted July 13, 2007 My type of photo. I see theseand hope my ccamera can catch it just perfect. I sure wich that tale wasn't there. It would be absolutely PERFECT if it wasn't. Link to comment
rogerleekam 0 Posted July 13, 2007 Thanks, everyone. Wasn't sure this would work in b&w. Link to comment
snapshooter 0 Posted July 13, 2007 You needn't have worried, Roger. These shots are invariably more dramatic in B&W. I looked at it for some time. The bookcase with the white/light leaflets were a distraction, but the columns, arches and streaming sunlight overpowered that . I thought to just darken the pages somewhat, but my curiousity got the best of me, and I took it all out. Did you know that your 17-85mm was produced with L glass, but as an EF-S lens, didn't get the designation. It's not something that Canon broadcasts, for obvious reasons. The improvement in greyscale gradation is particularly eveident. Anyway, it's a superb shot, bookcase/table or no. Top marks. Link to comment
rogerleekam 0 Posted July 14, 2007 Doug, that's excellent! Thanks a lot. I've never been much of a b&w man, I'm called a color freak but I've been trying more monochrome lately. Are you sure that it's not the 17-55 that has the L glass? My lens is about half the price and I like it, but it gets mixed reviews. Link to comment
sarah_newton 0 Posted July 14, 2007 Lighting and tones are superb, composed beautifully! Link to comment
snapshooter 0 Posted July 15, 2007 I have the same lens,Canon EF-S 17-85mm f4.0-f5.6, IS-USM. Can't say that it was inexpensive and I got it at considerably less than the suggested retal price . Still cost me $600,with tax. The information re "L" components came directly from Canon tech staff who didn't consider it a secret. Just unadvertised. Link to comment
rogerleekam 0 Posted July 15, 2007 You did well. I was very lucky to get it duty free at a great shop in St. Maarten, Virgin Islands. Picked up a fabulous 60mm 2.8 macro at the same time and wish I could have bought more. If you're ever there name of the shop is Boolchand's. Link to comment
snapshooter 0 Posted July 16, 2007 No question, it's the best place to shop in the Indies.I rarely use anything but Canaon lenses, but decided on the new Sigma 70mm f2.8 Macro. It's not very often they outrate the Canon and there's no practical difference in sharpness or contrast. I just liked the idea of a limiter switch on the autofocus at the Macro range, and that it even did a bit better than 1 to 1. Really, I could have lived without those features, but I did want the 70mm focal length for portraits as much as Macro. Link to comment
shanm 0 Posted July 24, 2007 The lighting is wonderful, nice smooth lines. Great capture. :) Link to comment
jan_piller 0 Posted August 1, 2007 Really nice use of Black and White and I love the shadows of the trees falling on the patches of light. Excellent perspective although I wish the cart wasn't there but I guess that couldn't be helped. Good grab. Link to comment
