Owens Valley, Dawn

The Owens River catches some radiant sunrise light above, shone onto

the distant peaks of the Sierra range in Winter. I was drawn to

photograph the scene for the curve in the river and beautiful grasses.

Great job here Marc as usual. Beautiful light, even the water is reflecting the light. Shadow details are just perfect. Beautiful persepctive including water and the mountains. Looking at the water's flow, I am thinking that the exposure was not too long. How long was the exposure in this case? Beautiful in every way, regards, Rajeev.

Man oh man, what a shot. Beautiful. The curve in the river draws my eyes in perfectly to that fabulous backdrop...even more so as the river past that bend seems to parallel the mountains, giving this tons of depth. There are two smaller elements that catch my eye. The brush in the bottom right and the tree at left center. Both briefly draw my attention away from the other elements while at the same time they both really give me the feeling of honestly being close up in this scene. I would be dancing if I had achieved a quality image like this. You did the beauty of this area justice!

Your images are always so sharp and well composed. This is just beautiful with the perfect lighting. I notice you use a lot of different types of filters. Do you think it is better to use a filter in the field as apposed to filters in Photoshop?

It's way better to get the exposure right in the field. No doubt about it. PS can't solve every problem and the more you use it the more you risk damaging the image or less accurate/natural results, so get it as close as you can before post processing is needed.

Thanks Marc. That's kind of how I felt until I heard a professional photographer say, "now that you can use filters in photoshop, there is no need in the field". It didn't seem right to me. Thanks!

I'd like to hear the contex in which such an exclaimation was made, particularly by some so-called pro. It's just nonsense to think PS can replace all filters used in the field. A filter like a polarizer, for example, which cuts glare on moist surfaces among other things is an effect not possible to duplicate in PS.

Nice scene Marc. There is not doubt that colors are amazing and landscape unique. I have been wondering myself about how much it matters to keep one of the bottom corners in the middle of the river/road etc type of objects. I have done that in the past too, when there was no choice, but wasn't as pleased. I was wondering what is your opinion on it. Does it hurt the composition? OF course if we don't do that we might hurts the angle we bring closer the foreground.

I know you would rather have someone point out something bad in your work than to say, "great job, perfect picture." That's why I don't comment on your photos. There is nothing wrong with anything you have ever posted. You are God in my opinion and I can't begin to describe the feelings I get from looking at every masterpiece that you post. I must say, this image makes my heart skip. I've never even SEEN such a beautiful display in person. The fact that you managed to capture it so vividly shows your skill as a photographer and as an artist. Absolutely beautiful.
