this image is very nice, i especiialy like the exposure time(nicely blended water) - i was hoping to find more interesting images in your portoflio, but i was quite dissapointed. it was very monotoneous. if i'd rate this picture i would give it 6 for aesthetics but like 2 for originality - u'r copying yourself man.....

No me canso de ver este rincon..., los tonos pastel del cielo le dan un ambiente de cuento, se puede sentir la brisa y casi oler el mar..., gracias por estas magnificas imagenes. Un saludo maestro.

Thanks to all for your comments and critiques / Gracias a todos por vuestros comentarios y criticas.

Dear Jozef,

Thanks for your feedback; I need to say that your opinion is very interesting for me, because in any case, a critique is the basis for any improvement.

Well, to be useful, I wish to understand it in more detail... I wish that you can answer some questions: Do you think that my work is monotonous in the themes I used? in the set of techniques I used? in the locations I like to visit? what kind of photos do you think I need to explore?

On the other hand, I visited your work (I think you have very beautiful photos in your portfolio) and I wish to understand one thing. Why do you think yours photos are not monotonous as mine? What is the main difference? May be this analysis can be interesting for me...

Thanks in advance for your answer

Hello Camilo,

I'm quite fine with the technique u'r using - I actually like when fotos have authors handwriting. I like to look at the photo and know it's that and that authors photo without looking at the name.

I think basically think it's monotoneous in the way of presented locations. For example this rock is here like 4 times - and it's basically still the same picture - only the composition/format is changing a bit

http://thumbs.photo.net/photo/5718838-sm.jpg

http://thumbs.photo.net/photo/5867961-sm.jpg

And it's the same with most of the other photos. My point is, that i can see from every single photo(out if these 4) that u can shoot this place in very interesting way. I personally don't need to be convinced 4 times about the same thing. Another thing is that the photos are loosing their uniqueness. In stead of being "THE photo" it's only "one of those 4(5,6,7,8...) similar photos". (am i expressing myself clearly).

Anyway, take this as personal opinion and an advice ment in a good way. Your photos are nice and I think I could learn something from u.

Take care

Jozef

I like the colors, although it seems a little unreal.

and yet I wish I would be there and see closely and breath deeply.

Thanks for sharing.

I like it! Great soft colourtones, beautiful sky and nice movement in the water.

Thanks Jozef,

I can understand the basic reason of your criticism about my work, but you forgot answer the second question. I have really interest to know: why do you think that my work is monotonous and, on the other hand, yours not?

I understand that you don't like to see photos of the same place, it is clear for me (very clear), but I wish to know your opinion about your own work...

Remember, that the criticism is the basis of any improvement.

I expect for your answer...

Thanks in advance for your feedback.

Hi there,

no I did not forget to answer. I thought I made it clear in what way I found your work monotoneous.

I do prefer shooting landscape photos - and they are the basis of what I posted here on photo.net. From this point of view u see much less variety in my portfolio then in yours. Not that it would matter, but the reason was quite simple - my camera was quite cheap. I have bought a new one, so most likely u'll be able to see different images in my portfolio soon.

Does this answer satisfy u? (no bitter tone, just cannot find better words)

Jozef

Hi Jozef,

Other time thanks for your feedback. Now, I have all my answers, finally!!. Well, I think that the discussion is interesting. It is true; I like to visit the same place more than one time... why?. Because I think that it is not easy to take a good photo in only one day. I visited this place each Saturday from January to March, and I have a lot of different view points, different sky conditions, etc. Don't worry I don't upload more images of this...ja,ja,ja!!

In the images I posted, I think I have different concepts on the 3 of the image you mention, for the speed used in one case (I like to play with ?high? shutter speeds now), for the use of bw in other (it is only a experiment), and yes finally this image is very similar to the other vertical version. I repeated the concept because I wish to show a horizontal version, and, on the other hand, I wish to show an image without the problem that Ian Cameron explains for the vertical one.

I think that somebody repeats some scenarios, and, in my case I like to do it, I'm sorry, I understand that it is not pleasant for you, but....

You should analyze your own work and you can see that you also repeat your preferred scenarios:

For example, you repeat 5 different viewpoint of the same bridge, and you play with this concept, you apply the same techniques, but for me its fine, I can understand you.

Other example, I can see that you like to take infrared photos. Somebody can say that you are monotonous, that the major part of your work consists on this kind of photos. I don't find any problem in it... you are playing with one kind of situation. You can find several similar photos in the Zemnik series ; several photos of rivers and trees, you can find some series also in your mountains, the same castle in several photos. It is not problem of the number of photos you have in your gallery. I think that all the photographers find some situation and play with it, you do it, and also I do it .

I wish to say, finally, that I like your work very much and I think that you have very interesting photos in your gallery. Please, continue exploring your preferred situations and don't worry about monotonous series (probably if you prepare a exposition you must do it), continue learning, continue be critic with the others work and also with your... O no!!! ;)

Take care and receive my best regards.

This discussion between Jozef & Camilo is very interesting. I have reviewed your portfolio more carefully as a result. My impression is that although, you shoot in a limited number of locations you have explored the oppotunities very well. The great thing about landscapes is that everytime you return to the same place, the lighting & conditions will be different, creating different moods. I am impressed in the way you have captured the same places in many different ways. There may be 1 or 2 photos that are quite similar but I do not find your work monotonous.
