Cute. The little feet are hilarious. You can tell they don't use them so much.

I assume this is a photoshop compilation?

Very difficult scene to shot. Almost impossible. But I'm afraid the artistic/aesthetic result isn't good at all.

Hi Janine. I have been following your backyard exploits with these fellows for some time now and I have to say, as I have in the past, that your talent for attracting these guys to you is without peer. If I could get a Hummer to come this close to me, especially when I had my camera at the ready, I would undoubtedly collapse on the ground in a fit of joy. You are a master of this aspect of Hummer photography!

With that said, it is now time for you to concentrate on a couple of other points. A few members have said that this is a great capture but that it is wanting in aesthetics or artistic quality. Well, it could be a little better along those lines. For example, I find the background to be a distraction. If you could have postioned yourself and camera so that the hedges extended completely across the back I feel the image would have been stronger. I can understand how it would be difficult to concentrate on that with a bird this close to you; it would be pretty exciting for me too!

The exposure is pretty good in this photograph. Fortunately, your hand seems to be acting as a bounce reflector for the ambient light and it helps to fill in the underside of your subject. The image still appears somewhat dark however. You can easily fix this with some post-shoot image editing (Photoshop, for example).

One last point is the original posted size of this photograph. It is way too big and exceeds the recommended file size for uploads. Janine, the problem with posting very large images is that PhotoNet uses a compression algorithm to downsize the image and it is not at all friendly to the final image quality. I looked at the large size of your photograph and it has great detail and color, but after it is compressed by PhotoNet it has lost all of that. In addition, a very large photograph has to be scrolled to be viewed in its entirety. This detracts from the viewing experience. Take a look at the PhotoNet FAQ (the link is at the very bottom of this page) for more details.

I tried out a few of these ideas on your photograh and posted the result. My thoughts are not meant to disparage your efforts but are points that I try to look for in my own work. Regards.
