Great details and color separation. So, I'm interested in this medium format; would you suggest where to get started. Thanks

Hi Frank, actually this was shot with my large format 4x5" view camera. I think that's what you mean, medium format isn't really any different from shooting a 35mm camera.

The best rescource around, and one I keep going back too is:

www.largeformatphotography.info

It has many great articles if you are just starting out - covering basic things like properly loading film in a holder, to focusing the camera and making sure everything is ready before taking the shot.

http://www.butzi.net/articles/lfchoose.htm is an OK article on choosing a camera.

http://www.butzi.net/articles/filmload.htm is probably the best example for film loading.

Also, a quick search of the forums here will reveal many good threads about what camera+lenses to get depending on what kind of shooting you do, e.g. a light folding camera for field work, as opposed to a heavy monorail for studio work.

Cheers,

Aaron

Aaron, what time of day was this taken. I'm assuming early morning or late afternoon by the lighting on the bale but it doesn't have any other hint of time. It's a wonderful gentle image. It should be very saleable.

Hi Jeff, congrats on the POW; it's your second, right? Anyway, this was shot early in the morning, it was bright, but mostly overcast (hence the slight grad across the sky) and threatening to rain. It really made the colors pop, and there are no harsh shadows. I take 'em when I can get 'em.

Cheers,

Aaron

Thank you Aaron,

it seems that I have a lot to learn about large format photography, especially the equipment.

Thanks Aaron, it was my first POW. I can relate to taking the opportunity when it presents itself. Light like this deserves to be recorded.

Another one. This same type of bale is prevalent where I live, and I often wonder how to shoot them. I like this treatment, with the detailed foreground. I've found, I think that treating the bales as the mainsubject is, well, maybe not hard, but it seems everyone does the same thing. I mean, I pass lots of pictures where they look exactly as they do in real life, which is fine. But this shot is not what you'd see in passing. This is getting out there in the field and walking around. Beautiful.
