cromwell1664877587 0 Posted April 29, 2007 If I didn't mess up and totally overexpose this shot, the wings would be close to frozen and the colors would be correct, most notably the grass in the background. At least I did end up with something a little different than my usual hummer pic. Postprocessing consisted of mainly just bringing the mid-levels down and sharpening. Link to comment
cromwell1664877587 0 Posted April 29, 2007 Thanks Dennis. Yes, I shot him this afternoon. Link to comment
paradox1 0 Posted April 29, 2007 Fantstic capture Scott. These shots seem so hard for me to find let alone capturing the moment. I know its almost impossible to freeze those wings and up the F stop but I would have loved to see the same pic with a little more DOF for the flowers. Magnificent shot all the same. Well done Link to comment
dennis jones 0 Posted April 29, 2007 How many do you have so far? We have three for sure...maybe four... two males, one female Link to comment
cromwell1664877587 0 Posted April 29, 2007 I only have this guy so far. He only comes around about once an hour and I didn't see him at all yesterday. Hopefully he'll be bringing some friends over soon. Link to comment
dennis jones 0 Posted April 29, 2007 I laid on the ground for over an hour this evening... Shot about a hundred shots... I take down all feeders except the ones I'm shooting to keep it fairly busy...Every 10 minutes or so... Link to comment

jkilgo 0 Posted August 29, 2011 I love your hummingbird pics...they are so sharp...I'm curious to know how you use your flash to captures these images...I've experimented with multiple Canon Speedlites reducing the power but can't seem to stop the wing blur...any thoughts? Link to comment
cromwell1664877587 0 Posted August 31, 2011 J, less ambient light, the easier it is to stop the blur with a flash. It's been awhile since I've shot hummers, but I think most of my pics I just tried to keep the shutter speed at 1/1000 or faster, hoped for a capture where the wings are slowed and at the back position, and used the flashes more for fill light than to stop the wings, although they did freeze them on occasion, with evidence in this picture. jkilgo 0 Posted August 31, 2011 Thanks Scott...I'll try shooting with a faster shutter speed next time out...not sure how much longer they'll stick around...hopefully through September. Jeff. Link to comment
