Karl Schuler 48 Posted April 28, 2007 It was not easy to reach there, in the North Face of Dent d'Hérens, but we were not prepared to encounter this obstacle, which blocked the way to the summit. Thanks for your feedback and rating. Karl Link to comment
Pierre Dumas 231 Posted April 28, 2007 I don't like this sport, but the picture is very good and I rated it that way! Cheers to my objectivity Karl, ha! PDE Link to comment
dougie 0 Posted April 28, 2007 Looks like a very expensive photo op, surely there must have been some warning that a wall this size would be here? The image is very good the polarizer has done it's work and the composition is very powerful. All the very best for the next time, Dougie Link to comment
keith pena 0 Posted April 28, 2007 Beautiful photo with excellant detail, DOF and lighting. Composition positioning of the climber really captures the magnitude of the task ahead of him. Very well done and thanks for sharing. Link to comment
katzpjs 50 Posted April 29, 2007 There needs to be higher numbers on the rating scale for this image! Link to comment
wayne_willis2 0 Posted April 29, 2007 Very nice composure -= the figure adds scale and interest. Very well done. Link to comment
cherlyn 1 Posted April 30, 2007 The shadows & light give good depth of the picture.Amazing sport capture in B/W. Link to comment

awaraagard 0 Posted May 1, 2007 this is such a mysterious photo that i keep coming back to this. pity that rating system doesn't allow full marks, but i believe this is beyond that. lyers of rock towering above a climber. truly represtative of plight of modern man. the human condition. perhaps the finest interpretation of Homer's "Odyssey". regards! gerhardt 0 Posted May 1, 2007 It is a stunning location and the lone person at the base of the wall says much about the "size" of the ice wall! It is the shadows I love and the contrast. Cheers, Grhardt Link to comment
shadowcatcher 0 Posted May 1, 2007 Great shot, the climber gives perspective and makes the picture that much better. What camera and lens did you use? Best wishes, KM Link to comment

Karl Schuler 48 Posted May 1, 2007 thank you very much for your encouraging comments. Pierre, great memory remembering in all objectivity a photo shot in 1980.Dougie, at that age warnings were our incitement. Next time? Perhaps in the next life.Umair, everybody is his own Ulisses ;-).Gerhardt, I tried my very best, but the shine of my ice walls can not compete with the silky skin of your models.Kevin, it was my beloved Olympus OM1 with the 50 mm 1.4 lens.Daily, das isch nid de richtig Ort zum dr Huet z luepfe.Karl Link to comment
yasirnisar 0 Posted May 2, 2007 Beautiful and a very mysterious shot, I like the way it has came up, the shadow of the man in front of this huge mountain is very small but it gives us the courage to stand up and conquer the mountains. Link to comment
poutnik 1 Posted May 2, 2007 The exposure is excellent IMO, very well presented... Jiri Link to comment
octavian radu topai 0 Posted May 5, 2007 Very good image! I'm sorry you had to return from the way to the summit, it's a sad decision... Link to comment
Karl Schuler 48 Posted May 6, 2007 Topai, to return from this point would not have been a wise option. We had to find an alternative route to escape from there. We were lucky to be able to traverse to the right side of the wall where we had an easier but still haunting descent. Karl Link to comment

bertr 0 Posted May 16, 2007 When we critique pictures, we talk of the focus and the light and the depth of field and colour saturation. Forget about all of these technicalities. This is an image which transends all of this. It is simply magnificent. 8/8 Bert Link to comment
olegmoiseyenko 0 Posted June 12, 2007 Dear Karl,This picture is beautiful: it has very impressive textures, contrasting play of brilliant ice wall and the tiny man figure, who is brave enough to climb up right into the deep black sky...Amazing!------------Regards,Oleg Link to comment
