Mike, I want to get a "macro" lens so I can photograph tiny insects like this! LOL Awesome shot you have here!

I don't see too many ant shots here on PN, maybe they just are way too fast for macro work...

This is a very nice effort. I like the composition very much, somehow the ant looks very symmetrical. The head about the size of the back and the legs spread out nicely.

I also like he shadows. A ring light would be less effective here. However - and this is the only suggestion I have - one could try to eliminate the white spots on the head and center body.

Great image!

Thank you Andreas for stopping by my gallery and leaving such a detailed and well thought out comment.

This shot was taken on the night I received my brand new 105mm f2.5 VR lens and SB600 flash. The ant is one of many that come into the house at night, how I don’t know! They are however quite slow, docile and co-operative! I simply focused the lens as close as I could and then moved along the wall until the little fellow was in focus. The flash has hand held and controlled from the D70 in-built flash. I have gained a bit more experience with Photoshop since this image was processed so I will try to implement your advice and remove or tone down the highlights.

Thanks again, Mike
