The Flower Seller

The flower seller has a great face. Did you consider asking him if you could take a closeup as a portrait? That might have been great, especially in this soft light.

He's part of my neighborhood, Fred. I love taking Candid Street, but lately it has been feeling too impersonal as a primary means of capturing faces, and as my wife pointed out, it's often just grab-on-the-fly, with no real photography skills involved.

 

So...I've been asking certain people in certain situations, and this guy was one of the people I asked, with the results you see above.

 

Thanks for the suggestion...I'm gonna do that. First I'll bring him a print of this one and when he sees it I think he'll go along with some close-ups.

 

You're kind of intimidating in that regard. I'm nervous about showing you anything I catch.

 

A side note...for me the surprise bonus in this shot was the (light or fog or something...it looks painterly somehow) effect that the plastic wrapped around the flowers lent to the blooms. I had to PS a bit of plastic away from the older guy's face, but overall I like the effect they gave.
