A great image Kim and viewing larger is even better. But I'll keep my distance; I was stung on the earlobe one time.

They were building their nest on a cactus pad! I don't know how well it will hold on one of those tiny cactus needles. I was pretty close - maybe 5" away. They were occupied and didn't bother me; however, I've been stung by one of these before and it feels like a cigarette burn! Anything to get the shot...

The nest does look precariously placed on that needle. Makes me wonder, "Why that particular spot?". The lighting, detail, background shadows & DOF are super. The one in the background looks like he's watching you & smiling. 5 inches???? Yikes!

Was this morning or evening light? Whatever, it is very nice lighting on some very scary characters. Only been stung a couple of times in my youth, boy did it hurt!

Morning light and Ed actually spotted them first. I was determined to get a decent shot, so contorted in between the brush and cactus to get this one.

I like it. I'm not really into macros that much so haven't really given it a work-out, but it does the job.

This is a really nice capture! I'm not sure I would have gotten that close - and I may be frightened off more by the thorns than the sting! Great photo!

Thanks, everyone! Anthony, still in Texas after a full day's driving! :) Found out I can't edit my RAW files on the laptop, so you'll have to wait until I come back to see some shots.

We'll work on a solution because it will drive me nuts not to be able to do anything until I get back. :)

You're already nuts! O.K., I'll go play photographer or something until your return. But stop saying "Honey! Pull over, I've got to get that shot!" or you'll never get there and back! :)
