Should I darken the white wall on the left side? No I think it just fine. I would like to suggest that you should have waited until the people at the top of the stairs were completely out of the frame or asked them to move so they are between you and the streetlight. I would have shot the scene with them facing each other or holding hands facing away from the camera.
