This is a straight scan with NO manipulation- I assume some might

have given lower marks thinking the color was manipulated. I'd like

your thoughts, please. Circular polarizer was only filter used.

Thanks.

Chris, you haven't received a bad rating, yet. What are you complaining about low ratings for?

It's very nice, but I like II even better.

I post on other forums also, and received a few e-mails accusing me of digital manipulation on this image. These people also gave me unusually low ratings (like 2 out of 5 stars). I justed wanted it out there that these colors are spot-on with the slide, and for people to rate them for what they are- not diminish the images because of perceived Photoshop trickery. The ratings at photo.net vary across the board- so it isn't a big deal.

Chris, if you're posting in a forum where people have no clue about the range of color available in film you'd better not waste your time there. Though in the couple weeks I've been involved in this forum, I've seen a gross amount of photoshop manipulation on landscapes that isn't even acknowledged by the photographer. That's very unfortunate for the intregrity of landscape photography in general.

The mono lake images you've posted are in general very good but I'm going to go against the general tide and suggest they do not show an intimacy of place, an aesthetic I believe separates good (even great) photography from images that deserve 9 or 10 ratings.

I'm very familiar with the location where you took these images and it looks to me like you went out to the location, had some very nice light and made a number of exposures, the 3 posted images show the transitioning light very plainly.

A lot of photographers, including myself, get into extraordinary lighting situations but because we don't have a predetermined excellent composition, we roll through film making good compositions and hoping for one extraordinary one out of the bunch.

As I said, look at the work of Jim Stimson (everyone should who's interested in Mono Lake) and I think you'll see an intimacy of place that has allowed him to create photographs of the area that are worthy of aspiring to.

One of your very best, I think. What I personally like here is that among all these beautifull colors, this dark line at the back strengthens the composition. Less romantic maybe, but more interesting to me as it sets a surprising contrast between soft and hard. Maybe a bit more magenta in the blues could make this even greater, not sure. Regards.
