Shot with EOS 5D hooked to 85/1.2L at 1.2 1/25 sec, hand held

at ISO320 during a summer night in Helsinki Finland. Strange

light - as there basically is no light except the cool, misty

haze of the sun that just refuses to set.

nice soft colors and nice soft light that's very fitting for a portrait of a young lady such as her. good job.

Wow. what an awesome lens. How do you like it. I have the 85 f/1.8 and thought about getting the 1.2. Any thoughts or opinions?

Thank you for the comments and input!

About 85/1.2L -

I actually do not own that lense, I borrowed it for this

shot. The lense is a stellar performer optics wise, perhaps as sharp

as 135/2, and the wide aperture makes it possible to shoot

at virtually no light at all. On the negative side, its

bulky, way heavier than 85/1.8 (which I do own), it is very

slow to focus (reminded me of some army howitzer that was

rolled into a position) and had (at least this model on my 5D)

a systematic focus failure of focusing some 5-10cm behind

the subject in very low light. It also vignetted quite a bit at

1.2. Operating the lense at <1.6 is quite a nightmare, the DOF is just

too shallow for fast focusing, and you end up spending frustrating

amounts of time figuring out if you should drop the tip of the nose

or the ears out of focus of the ravishing model(s).

But if you insist on top notch optics quality and do not

mind carrying two pounds of glassware in your bag at some $2000,

go right ahead :-)
