dave_dube 10 Posted April 7, 2007 I don't take these guys with an f/2.8 setting so I wanted to see what the DOF would be like. Very shallow.Thoughts Link to comment

kenrick 0 Posted April 7, 2007 I like the DOF...It works well to draw the focus to the colours of the bird Link to comment
ryourth 0 Posted April 7, 2007 You have captured the first rule of bird photography, sharp eyes & the blurred motion of the wings is great.Well done. Regards_Ross Link to comment
katzpjs 50 Posted April 7, 2007 I prefer f5.6 or a bit more for shots like this. It brings more into focus for the primary subject but still gives good DOF for the background. You did good on this one. Link to comment
jan_piller 0 Posted April 9, 2007 Great grab Dave! Excellent focus on that head! Beautiful background! Good job. Link to comment
cherlyn 1 Posted April 13, 2007 I would say good try. Prove that not only 2.8 can get good DOF. The fluttering wings give nice motion & the head portion is sharp enough for a bird shot. Link to comment
mmmee 0 Posted April 15, 2007 There is good motion blur on this hummer. That, after all, is how they look in flight -- a blur, and flash of light. I find the very shallow DOF to be the feature of the shot. It is true to how we actually perceive these birds. I like it. Link to comment
dave_dube 10 Posted April 15, 2007 Thanks everyone, I really appreciate your stopping by and leaving some thoughts behind.Maggie, interesting perspective and very true. Even when they are sitting, their breathing and heart rate is so fast that only their heads are still.Dave Link to comment
dave_dube 10 Posted May 19, 2007 Thanks Sarah!Over the past month we've had over 20, it was very difficult keeping up with making their 'nectar' and keeping the 3 feeders fresh. As of today, May 19th, we have 2 remaining. Not sure yet if they are the one's arriving for the summer or they just haven't moved on yet. Yesterday, we didn't see any. Link to comment
jan_piller 0 Posted May 22, 2007 Some day I hope to take just even one good bird picture that might be able to compare to one of yours. You are a bird master! Link to comment
