Beautiful picture. It is a pity the the top of the mast is not showing. Congratulations. Yves P.

Photographing sailboats from another boats is among one of the most technically challenging styles of photography. That said, i wish i could see the stern. I dont care about the masthead because it incorporates too much negative space. Unless its a cup boat, but even then i dont like most full view photos.

For this photo, if it was taken in RAW, i would try and change the white balance a bit to see if i could darken the sky with it and make it a little less green. I'd also try and up the saturation to see if it would do anything to their jib.

Since I'm no expert here, I'll defer to Dan's comments which seem appropriate and helpful.

I'll add that I think the shot you're using as a portrait is really nice, sweet, and has a lovely feel to it.

Thanks, guys. Dan,had a look at your portfolio - just great. I also prefer to sail, but can't resist shooting. Also not sure how the crew feels about me with a camera, but that's their problem. I wonder if I wasn't getting better shots last season, probably just a state of mind. Thanks for your tips, and I'll not be discouraged.

Haha. With my crew i had to shrug off a few strange looks just to bring the weight of the camera on board, let alone shoot with it! (i wanted to shoot Stars and Stripes (the cat) before the start, but never got the chance. Hence the 2 wave shots to leeward that are in my portfolio instead).

Roger, glad no offense taken. I leave critique like that because i like it when people do it for me. It catches me off guard sometimes, but in the end i like it.

BTW, tell the crew of "French Kiss" to get their legs over the side of the boat and HIKE!... :)

Splendid this sailboating with fantastic colours and details. All my compliments, bye Maury

Dan, I'm as chicken as they are. This isn't the America's Cup or the Caribbean. Down south you avoid hurricanes. North of the Mason-Dixon Line we avoid getting wet.
