Some day, probably when I'm too old to focus a lens, I'm going to take a trip starting in west Texas or Oklahoma & zigzag my way up through Kansas,Nebraska, the Dakotas & Montana & on up in to Canada & just take pictures of this stuff. I think this is pretty outstanding.

the framing is great. The photo looks like being on the verge of over-exposed. There is a large contrast - the dark "tunnel" and bright everyting else. This composition could be a good candidate for PS's HDR - taking two or three shots from a tripod and combining them. Cheers, Micheal

I hope you get that chance before long. I envy some of the locales where you have had the opportunity to tromp around. We both need to recognize that it's not all location. SEEING is more important. And you have that no matter where you are. It can be used anywhere. I might add that your grain elevator shot is the standard I use for that subject, and this one pales in comparison.

Thanks for your thoughts. The original image is certainly not overexposed, but my processing may have made it appear so. I was fooling around with the black and white conversion, then sepia and added grain. I really don't know how I feel about this one, so I won't try and defend any criticism.

I was raised in Montana and absolutely love pictures like this. You captured it well! Anybody traveling through Montana/Idaho will see these deserted grain elevators everywhere. They are as much a part of the landscape as the mountains are. Love this picture!!!!

Thanks for commenting. You are certainly right about these elevators being all over the place and being abandoned. I don't think I understand what happened to them. I will have to study up. At any rate, they are imposing and interesting to me. I've posted them in the past, and still have some to post in the future.

David, I find an attraction to this image, especially to the unusual color and different power of contrast. The darker sky are helping to ballance the FG brightness ( maybe a tiny bit darker will add). Interesting construction and composition.

Thanks. As I stated in an earlier comment, most of the time when I post an image, it is because I like it and it succeeds on some level with me. But this one, I just wasn't very attached to. I have not tried to process much using some of the tools I used on this one. It's nice to get some feedback.
