I wish I had a longer lens. I also wish that those stupid magpies hadn't pissed him off so he hadn't decided to chase them off; I'm sure I could have got 50 yards closer were it not for that.

Good shot. What lens did you use for this shot? I shot one this past weekend using a Canon 70-200mm f2.8 and switched over to a Tamron 200-400mm f5.6 when I didn't have the reach (also put a 2x TC on my Tamron) ... the pics didn't seem to have much detail and were dull looking compared to yours.

Thanks for viewing everyone.

Dale, I used the nikon 70-300 G lens, basically the cheapest zoom lens around (or at least that I know of).

I'd say there is more detail in that last shot of the duck that you uploaded. You can really see the markings on the feathers. If you feel you aren't getting enough detail and your shots look dull I'd suggest some good post processing, maybe a gentle unsharp mask. This shot looked very poor until I did some RAW adjustments and a gentle unsharp mask. Also, don't be afraid to bump up your ISO for more shutter speed. Nothing will make your pictures look sharper than faster shutter speed. DSLR's are so quiet nowadays at high iso I'm never afraid to bump it up to 1600 ISO. The average person looks for detail, composition, and colours when judging photographs, not digital noise.

Hey Clayton, thanks - the Teal had more detail because I was close to it but at that distance on your Bald Eagle, that looks way better than my shots of an eagle - I have PaintShop and other small graphics programs ... I only do basic post processing as I suck at it but I'll see what I can do with your advice and see if I can make my eagle shots look better but yes, it's dull, soft and noisy.
