ken_thalheimer 3,739 Posted April 2, 2007 With a very good sky, I like your choice of placing the horizon. Very good position of the oil rig also. I think the grain works well for this shot Link to comment
AaronFalkenberg 0 Posted April 3, 2007 Other than being the only object visible on the 3600 horizon, the luminosity of the clouds and the absorbing black of the pumpjack (even in noontime color) really caught my attention. Cheers, Aaron Link to comment
carsten_ranke 0 Posted April 10, 2007 Very good B&W tones, and the grain-effect is nice. Unlike your "Three Bales" shot this composition is quite static, and I see no good reason for the central placement of the pumpjack. Did you try other variants, with this element in the LL, for example ? If it is a crop, it would be worth a try IMO. Link to comment
AaronFalkenberg 0 Posted April 10, 2007 You are right, it is quite a static composition, but also a balanced one. I tried it left, and if there was more movement in the shot (visual direction as opposed to being a layred composition), I would definately place it there. As the only "thing" present, it just didn't feel balanced being off center. In the shot above, for example, placing the bins to the right encourages my eye to explore the rest of the frame, following the line of the clouds. No such direction exists in the other. But, you are now the second person to suggest I move the pump, so maybe it's just my quirky way of seeing things. Cheers, Aaron Link to comment
