My usual question: how did this look before the doctoring? That's not to say I don't like the doctoring; I'm just curious. And who in the world owns so much nail polish? That's amazing.

I took my granddaughter to the hair/nail salon today for her first ever trip. These were hanging on the wall. It's a weak image, so I should have known you would choose that one to comment upon. Well, at least it wasn't taken in Fresno.

I'm not a huge fan of any filtering that can be easily identified. I think if you had taken this shot but with your grand daughter in the shot close to the wall or even shot it with a telephoto so just the nail polish was in the background it would have been much more interesting.

Your opinion is certainly as good as any, but I think it is a shame to exclude yourself from the powerful possibilities of PhotoShop. This is not a very good example upon which to form an opinion, but there are certainly many images out there that are powerful and artful that relied on filters and many other tools that can be had. Thanks for looking and your comments. Cheers

Actually, I'm normally not a fan of PS painting, though in this case I like your processed image quite a bit better than the original. Thanks for satisfying my curiosity.

I may have mentioned this before, but for some excellent work in PS painting, see Gene Nocon's site, GeneNocon.com. He doesn't use filters, but he does paint in Photoshop, and gets some amazing results.

Thanks. Actually because of your recommendation I purchased Nocon's little booklet. While I have not attempted to paint with his technique yet, I did find a couple of little processing tips that he starts with to be extremely useful. I owe you for that.

I like the pattern. I also prefer this enhanced one to the orginal - the original looks too ordinary.

How about a similar shot with shelves of V8? Cheers, Micheal

That's what I thought too, which is why I fooled around with it. Why is it that you have not gone into the grocery with that brand spanking new D80 and captured the V8 aisle?

I think it's called a healthy sense of self-preservation. The store people might think that a competion is using it for something and get angry.

However, since you are the Grand Daddy of n-o-m photography, maybe you'd get away with it :-)) Cheers, Micheal

Less kind individuals might call you gutless. The problem I have is that my local grocery only stocks like ten bottle of V8. Now that is not going to make much of a picture is it?
