srr 0 Posted March 29, 2007 Hi Gregory. This is a good image and I gave it a good rating. Since the flowers are so well done, let me ask you - why the black background like so many others? Seems like there are a million of these flower pictures with the black background. It seems so overdone. That said, this is one of the better ones. Link to comment
gregverena 343 Posted March 29, 2007 I know the commenter will probably not see this, but it is a legitimate question. I use a black background because it allows me to concentrate on the flower, which is what I am interested in presenting. The black, placed at the right angle, will absorb extraneous light from the flash. A white background will reflect no matter what and make it very difficult to get the effect desired of the bloom. Other colors will interact one way or another, which someone may desire. I don't. I have no control over the process outside, and after becoming interminably frustrated by wind, bugs, clouds etc, I've settled on picking the blooms and working with them under crude, but controlled conditions (our kitchen). So, for me, I use the black because it works for what I want to do which is to explore the blossom from all angles and all, ok not all, but many sources of light. (I mean directions). Not all work, but a few usually do. I appreciate those who use different backgrounds and understand the difficulty they encounter. Thanks greg Link to comment
srr 0 Posted March 30, 2007 Makes sense. You're right, outdoors the bugs, wind, debris, etc. can try one's patience. And since I have not shot much indoors, the other information is helpful, too. Link to comment
