Guest Guest Posted March 27, 2007 Doug, this is a very sensuously handled portrait. You've conveyed a lot of softness, especially with the depth of field you've used and how you've captured the skin. I love the way her eyes each look out from the side. The far eye being out of focus gives this a dreamy feel. My only problem would be the shadow on the close side of her face. It may be a little strong and, therefore, a little unflattering. I think you could keep the same dramatic effect but not be so severe in the shadowing. Link to comment
dougbrill 0 Posted March 27, 2007 Good comment. I agree that the lighting could have been brighter on the shadow side. I think it may have been better just to have the focus on the lighted eye. Thanks. Link to comment
laurentbaig 0 Posted April 16, 2007 I'm not so sure it would have been better to have the focus on the far eye, Doug. I think you definitely want it closer. A big white card reflecting some of that side light might do the trick to even out the shadow. As it is, the sidelight creates a mood of mystery and sensualness as was mentioned before. My nitpick on this is the blur seems to have been done with photoshop as opposed to using a wide aperture, or maybe a soft focus lens. The portrait itself is lovely, though. Link to comment
