dave_dube 10 Posted March 26, 2007 Did you ever learn how to hypnotise a chicken when you were a kid (OK, maybe adult if your childlike)? Link to comment
jan_piller 0 Posted March 26, 2007 Did you use a pocket watch and swing it slowly back and forth in front of him? Funny shot! He really does looked spaced out! Link to comment
mmmee 0 Posted March 26, 2007 LOL. I know how! You fold the chicken's head under its wing, then swing the bird gently back and forth. It goes to sleep. Thanks for the big smile of the day. I am glad I came to see your portfolio this morning! Its a different view of a bird. I like the mix of shadows and highlights -- light/dark -- and there is still detail in the dark and light. Very good use of the light. And then there is the background of the same color and use of light but with a different focus. The whole combination of color and light make this into an abstract of high quality, for me. Too bad its not the year of the rooster. :) Link to comment
dave_dube 10 Posted March 27, 2007 Jan, thanks for commenting ~ his one synapse was on pause.Maggie, I'm always amazed at your eye and perception, I mean that with much sincerity. You hit on all the elements that I thought really made this photo. The tone of the background with his beak worked because I hit the preview DOF button, something I forget to do frequently. I think half of the viewers perceive what you articulated, only a few spend the time trying to understand why an image works. The other half only see a chicken and forget to analyze and pull apart photos to understand why they work and why they don't.M.M., you know one way to induce a sleep state. To hypnotise a chicken, you extend a finger in front of their beak, about 18 inches away and move it slowly towards their beak. When you get about 6 inches away, you move your hand back quickly and do it over again getting a little closer. Next thing you know, it's freeze frame.Dave Link to comment
jan_piller 0 Posted March 27, 2007 So what would be the purpose of hypnotising a chicken. So that you can make it bark like a dog? Do you go cow tipping too? hahahaha Link to comment
andrea allison 0 Posted March 27, 2007 Wow! I haven't had a rooster in my face since I was a kid. lol Nice shot Dave. Great color and detail, some personality too. Regards Andrea Link to comment
dave_dube 10 Posted March 28, 2007 Jan, spending time on my uncle's farm while growing up, we needed to find things to do (my cousins and I). We got the idea from the way some older people do their finger slowly to the nose of a baby. We thought about how captivated the babies were. That's all I can say about it other than about 54 yrs since I've done it last. I don't want some activist group banging down my door or barn because of this photo and my question! I think the rooster saw his or a reflection in the lens??Dave Link to comment
margaret1 0 Posted March 29, 2007 I'm not sure who is trying to hypnotise whom here! What a great photo. You make good photography look easy. True, all the elements are here in the simplicity and humor. Well done! Link to comment
j_m_lee_photography 0 Posted April 6, 2007 I really like that cocky look and funny at the same time. Maybe a surgery might help. :0)) Nice portrait for sure. Link to comment
mmmee 0 Posted April 7, 2007 hi there You are too kind with regard to my perceptions, but I appreciate your saying so. :)) I tried the other method to hypnotise the chicken. It never seemed to work for me. Thanks for the background on your research into chicken hypnosis Happy Easter to you and all your loved ones. Cheers Maggie Link to comment
