marcadamus 1 Posted March 23, 2007 A long exposure streaks the clouds accentuated by a very wide lens surrounding this 5000 year-old (and more than 1000 years dead) Bristlecone Pine, the oldest living species on Earth. I felt the dramatic sky, B&W treatment and streaked clouds complimented the subject and helped to define its charachter. Link to comment
gp1664880838 0 Posted March 23, 2007 This stump looks like a stoned warlock or druid :) Perfectly done. Congrats! Link to comment
davidschindlerphotography 0 Posted March 23, 2007 Very well done. I agree, the long exposure gave the clouds a nice look. Link to comment
phyrpowr 0 Posted March 23, 2007 Now THAT'S a helluva shot, great work. I'd love to see a big print, as I'd like to see how much of that wonderful woodgrain shows up, looks pretty good on a LCD monitor Link to comment
Guest Guest Posted March 23, 2007 Outstanding! And as far as I concerned, it's great you wrote some technical details - I can better understand, I can learn a little. Thank you for sharing - for beautiful shot and lesson :) Link to comment
aslavihervuori 0 Posted March 23, 2007 Find a single word to describe it... Not possible, "excellent" sounds too flat... Bullseye composition of tree combined with long exposure background sky creates (for me) illusion of explotion or perhaps more like silhouette of some ancient god or spirit. Cold toning colour underlines that expression (or strenghtens it) Very poweful image, indeed. No ratings, since I do not them anymore, a s l a Link to comment
cojacal 0 Posted March 23, 2007 Striking, gothic, sombre, and strangely anthropomorphic. As my daughter observed, like 'the white witch from Narnia'. Rgds Colin. Link to comment
snapshot1 0 Posted March 23, 2007 I have always love those trees - did a science project on them in 6th grade or so. Reminds me of the "bone yard beach" scenes on barrier islands in the Georgia bight. Your pine needs a haunted house like mine behind it but in the distance. Seriously nice shot. Color might be interesting too. Link to comment
kahkityoong 0 Posted March 24, 2007 I like the otherworldly effect created by the moving clouds behind a static object. Superb portrait. Link to comment
alinux33 0 Posted March 24, 2007 Marc, you never cease to amaze me with your work. This shot is coming straight from the ancient tales with wizards and warriors. Great stuff!! Link to comment
morteza.safataj 0 Posted March 24, 2007 Motion of clouds are fantastic and really great capture with a blue tone (if I don't mistake). Marc, could you please mention shutter speed? Regards Link to comment

Fishermang 0 Posted March 24, 2007 Majestic! Very unique and special photo right here. I just wonder out of curiosity how it looked like in colours. Link to comment
marcadamus 1 Posted March 24, 2007 Exposure was 30 seconds here. The clouds were moving very fast. Link to comment
will king 0 Posted March 24, 2007 Okay, you've heard that before, but it does have that feel. Marc, what determines, for you, to convert an image to B&W? I can imagine the color version of this is pretty impressive too. Link to comment
seandepuydt 2 Posted March 24, 2007 Marc, this is pretty incredible. Very dramatic, powerful and true to your goal of big and bold. I think you've done well to choose B&W for this. For me the B&W emphasizes the shape, no color to get in the way. - Sean Link to comment

kezia 0 Posted April 2, 2007 He's casting a spell - maybe bringing in those clouds. Beautiful tones and the lines of the hills compliment the cloud movement perfectly. I love it. Link to comment
