Guest Guest Posted September 30, 2007 Photographs of stray or abandoned dogs always affect me deeply, and this shot is no exception. The placement of the dog in the frame...the emptiness (negative space) around him...emphasizes the sense of loneliness and abandonment for me. The way the dog is laying also adds to this feeling I get. The tonality is very nice, and the texture of the dog's fur almost makes it seem to blend into the background of the street...which is what abandoned dogs usually do...they blend into the background of our daily lives and become almost invisible to us. And eventually, they just disappear. While I congratulate you on the shot and its outstanding composition, it makes me sad to look at it, but in that respect, it succeeds as a photograph because it causes an emotional response from the viewer.
