radboud 0 Posted March 16, 2007 interesting, initially having exactly the same reaction as Richard about those cropped hands, after reading your answer, I actually can 'see' the exact shape of her hands coming out of the frame; on the other hand I'm getting the notion of the stick being the axis of her movement, which is at the same time reflecting her own body-axis - both are meeting each other (and the frame!) at the top of the picture . . in short: a perfect composition! Looking in this way -this is a complete lecture in 'looking' you're giving me through this picture- I discover that her arms actually form a rectangle, parallel with the picture frame, and (sorry, there is no end to it! . .) her body and the stick are forming the figure '4', which also signifies the square in a mathemathical sense, and structure (earth, solidity) in a symbolic sense . . .
