This is a study in contrasts -- How many can you name in

this 'street' photo? Your ratings and critiques are invited and most

welcome. If you rate harshly or very critically, please submit a

helpful and constructive comment; Please share your superior

photographic knowledge to help improve my photography. Thanks!

Enjoy! John

This photo is little appreciated, I think, but I like it enough to post it. I'm surprised few decided to take the challenge and try to name the contrasts.

It is a ripe photo for discussion, I think; and I have thought so ever since I took it. I like it just for that -- for the intellectuality of it all.

It's not a 'pretty' photo, but I post very few of those (I take quite a few pretty photos, but what's the sense in my competing on posting 'pretty' photos on a service that has a paucity of photos such as this, where I am almost singular?)

Also, I shoot a lot of portraits and nudes of pretty young women, but where are they? I'm learning and studying by doing that, and polishing my skills, not to compete with John Peri (that is impossible) but to make those skills match my street skills -- studio work is more alien to me; I'm a dine and dash kind of guy -- setting things up works against my impromptu spirit.

I notice your tastes are not in the ordinary -- judging from your posted photos and suggest you'll get lousy rates, but stick with it.

I literally had to 'make' my own audience here; people will find you who appreciate your work.

And rates and critiques will show you which of your work is more or less successful, though rates are sometimes 'full of holes' -- they still work for mainstream 'popularity' if nothing else, but I suggest you are not seeking 'popularity' here based on what you've posted so far and are looking for your own niche.

Am I wrong?

Thanks for noticing.

Sometimes an audience of one can be enough :)

I`ve had you marked as an interesting person for a while now..ever since you published Photographers, Be aware of your Backgrounds. Maybe you would be kind enough to post a link to that here, for newer members who may not have seen it.

Leanne

I have to learn how to 'link' though it's a commonly known skill. I'm off on 8,000 or 9,000 miles this week, so it may be a while, but I just might do that; sounds like a very good idea, if you think it is worthy.

Thanks for the feedback; it's valuable to me.

I think that after I have learned to 'hot link' my 'Presentation': Photographers, Watch Your Background', I will post the link every time I mention the Presentation.

It also may get a lot more traffic therefrom, which is the idea.

I notice that a comment in my 'commentaries' page under my folder, suggests that the book(s) I have stated my intention to write, already are written here on Photo.net and praising me for sharing thusly.

To that, I plead guilty. I also use this forum to sound out my ideas for book-length and in-depth treatment of photography and photographic techniques.

It's a wonderful place for that.

So, thank you once again for the valuable suggestion; in my own mind, it didn't seem so worthy, though it was intended to be, once rewritten and 'fleshed out'.
