samrat 1 Posted March 18, 2007 Hi Claire, Congrats on such a beautiful photograph. I am a beginner and have a growing interest in B&W. The play of light and shadow in this shot is amazing. Is this the original shot, or have you softened it a bit in photoshop? The prominent edge of the tiles have added to the effect and the cropping has made the shot "tight" and powerful. A question...what made you decide how much of the gate to include in the photo? Was your emphasis on the shadow that helped you decide this? Maybe a silly question, but will grasp anything to learn from! Also, what were your aperture and shutter settings? Link to comment
claire 0 Posted March 18, 2007 Hello Samrat, Thank you for your interest. The shot was taken in one of the numerous colleges in cambridge. The afternoon light fell so wonderfully for these shadow images. The emphasis was always to capture these strong shandows - I wasn't even going to include the shadow source i.e the gate. The image was originally taken in colour, but there was so little colour you wouldn't have known. I used PS greyscale technique to convert to B&W image and tweeked the 'curve' facility to make the image darker. Hope this is helpful. Thank you for your interest once again. Claire Link to comment
